Proving Air Quality with a Smoke Test
The Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Washington maintains one of the most active competition schedules in the country, hosting more than 50 events annually. At full capacity, this mega-facility has housed up to 50 employees, 1,000 swimmers and 2,500 spectators. Aging and ineffective HVAC systems were aggravating an issue with build-up of chloramines and carbon dioxide on the pool surface during periods of heavy use. Willdan’s innovative engineering solution focused on fixing the air distribution. Together with King County staff, we conducted a series of smoke tests to prove that the new systems works to dramatically and rapidly removes hazard gases from the pool surface and building.
